Maybach suv for my refugees11/9/2023 ![]() The Maybach treatment extends beyond material and styling changes and in the EQS, that means more power from the twin electric motors. Seriously, I counted over 30 inside and out. Detailing overall in the cabin is stunning, with real metal accents and more Maybach logos than you can shake a stick at. The woods are warm and beautiful and match perfectly with the rich leather. There are two Manufaktur wood options – brown birch and brown walnut – as well as a lacqured piano black that you can choose if you have no taste. The process is better for the environment and according to Mercedes, it saves about 100 pounds of salt per vehicle compared to conventional leather. Those digital details mingle neatly with material changes for the flagship EQS – Nappa leather is standard and, in a nod to sustainability, was tanned using recycled and plant-based materials (such as coffee beans). Speaking of MBUX, front-seat passengers will have access to the standard Hyperscreen, which now includes Maybach-specific skins. Two 11.6-inch displays, meanwhile, sit on the front seatbacks and allow access to the MBUX infotainment suite. ![]() Sadly, Mercedes did not have a bottle of Veuve Clicquot for us to test the drinkware. And naturally, silver-plated champagne flutes and a removable refrigerator are available. While it presents an impressive visual statement, including a puddle lamp that projects the Maybach logo onto the carpet, the console also adds heated cupholders, four USB-C ports, two HDMI ports, and a housing for a tablet. A fixed center console divides the two seats, but opt for the First-Class Rear (snigger), and the console is larger, connecting to the front center console in a floating bridge design. Nowhere is that clearer than in the cabin, where Mercedes ditched the optional third row and added a fixed bulkhead behind two throne-like rear seats.Įndlessly adjustable and boasting a calf massager and heated shoulders (in addition to the usual array of heating, ventilation, and massaging, natch) the right rear seat also includes a pop-out ottoman. The overall design of the EQS is unchanged (despite what the concept promised) but the detailing is what the Maybach badge stands for. Surprisingly, 23-inch wheels aren’t available, because the EQS’ wheel arches are too small. The two wheel designs – 21s are standard, while 22s are optional – modify Mercedes’ traditional monoblock design and look glorious. Tiny Maybach logos adorn the non-functional lower intakes, aping the Louis Vuitton pattern, and they appear again in the animated puddle lamps. The Mercedes three-pointed star takes its rightful place on the hood, while a waterfall grille sits below the first of many (many) Maybach word marks. Just the sort of thing that people who write massive cheques to Maybach lap right up.Like all recent Maybach models, two-tone paint is available with a hand-drawn pinstripe. But of course at night time a discerning Maybach buyer wants to maintain their veil of privacy, so the firm has built a little fin into the back of the door window to shade whoever’s in the back from prying eyes. ![]() There’s a little light (a “designer lamp” says the company) on the inside of the C-pillar that gently illuminates the interior over your shoulder. Well yes – there’s one touch that no one will particularly notice that Maybach is very pleased with. Need to do some work? Optional tables fold out of the centre console. There’s a chrome hook in front of you to take your jacket, but it shouldn’t get in the way of your 11.6in screen that sits on the back of the front seat. The shagpile carpets will envelop your custom loafers as you slide aboard. In fact the car even sings when you open the doors, it sounds like chanting monks. There’s a sensory overload to the new Maybach that’s almost overwhelming to someone without money (comparatively speaking), but will soothe the wealthy like a cat’s purr.
